What is Peripheral Artery Disease?
Think of arterial disease, and your thoughts may immediately go to the arteries within the heart, head, or neck. However, arteries are located throughout the body, where they are responsible for delivering oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the body’s tissue. In the extremities such as the legs, they are known as peripheral arteries, and just like the arteries of the heart, these too can develop disease such as atherosclerosis, or plaque buildup, resulting in a number of dangerous health complications.
